The iPhone
Ok, so iPhones are the greatest thing on the market now. Come on, you can't deny it! Who would not want one? Who would not cherish an iPhone?
They are AWESOME! Of course, I can't really afford to buy one at the moment.
So while my Sprint contract ends, the price of the iPhones drops, their capacity increases (so that they become video ipods too), the ATT network ameliorates and you don't have to send in your phone to get the battery replaced when it dies, this is the only viable solution:

(Taken from this article which also has the pattern.)
Can't buy an iPhone? Just knit one! :)

Fascism
I recently saw this poster at a store (Outloud) and it caught my attention.

"Laurence W. Britt wrote about the common signs of fascism in April, 2003, after researching seven fascist regimes: Adolph Hitler's Nazi Germany; Benito Mussolini's Italy; Francisco Franco's Spain; Antonio de Oliveira Salazar's Portugal; George Papadopoulos's Greece; Augusto Pinochet's Chile; Mohamed Suharto's Indonesia." Quoted from here.

... to illustrate the impact of AIDS

"The Gay Men's Chorus posed to illustrate the impact of AIDS. Those dressed in black, with their backs turned, represent those who had died. Today, all their backs would be turned because the obituary list is now 47 names longer than the chorus roster. For each man singing these days, more than one chorus member has died of AIDS. Chronicle file photo, 1993, by Eric Luse"

My new thing...
I recently discovered podcasts. According to Wikipedia, a podcast is a digital media file, or a series of such files, that is distributed over the Internet using syndication feeds, for playback on portable media players and personal computers.
They have proven to be a very efficient way for me to keep up to date with the news. They range in length and content, from 5 to more than an hour. Among my favorites are:
* NPR: Wait Wait... Don't tell me (weekly)
* New York Times Front Page (every weekday)
* CNN: Anderson Cooper (every weekday)
* AAAS: The Science Podcast
* BBC: Documentary Archive
* The Onion Radio News
And there are others...
There is a good summary of the report of published by the National Academies Press, Beyond Bias and Barriers: Fulfilling the Potential of Women in Academic Science and Engineering.
Well, all I can say now is... ENJOY! :)

Women in Science
I'm not a natural-born activist. Never, until now, had I'd been actively pursuing a cause, regardless of whether I believed in it or not. But this women in science business, really gets on my nerves. I'm a woman. I'm in science, a physicist by education and an astronomer at heart.
Naturally I have lots of questions, mostly of which I can't answer.
Am I fighting a lost cause?
Is there an obvious point where I can say, "I had enough, I'm out!"?
Is it when I cry every night?
If I quit, is it letting "the man" win?
When is a PhD more important than happiness?
I think I have an answer for that last one... NEVER!
Maybe I have had enough.

You might want to read the article printed on the December edition of Physics Today.

The Kinsey Scale
Few are the people that are 100% heterosexual or 100% homosexual. Scientists knew that since the 1950's. How come the rest of society hasn't catched up yet?
So how gay are you?
Rating Description
0 Exclusively heterosexual
1 Predominantly heterosexual, only incidentally homosexual
2 Predominantly heterosexual, but more than incidentally homosexual
3 Equally heterosexual and homosexual
4 Predominantly homosexual, but more than incidentally heterosexual
5 Predominantly homosexual, only incidentally heterosexual
6 Exclusively homosexual

3. Me gusta leer emails, pero casi nunca escribo.

"Karma is a sum of all that an individual has done and is currently doing. The effects of those deeds actively create present and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life."
